Jehosheba
Protecting the Future
Today i want to tell you about a woman named Jehosheba—a woman who risked everything to protect a baby and the promise of God. She lived in a time of great fear. A wicked queen named Athaliah had taken the throne and ordered every royal child to be killed. She wanted to destroy the line of David so no one could ever challenge her rule. But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Jehoram and sister to the slain King Ahaziah, could not let that happen. She found a tiny baby—her nephew, Joash—hidden among the servants. He was only an infant, helpless and innocent. Jehosheba wrapped him in her arms and whispered, ‘You will live. God’s promise will not die today.’ Then she carried him away to the temple, where she and her husband, Jehoiada the priest, hid him for six long years.
For six years, Jehosheba raised that child as her own. She fed him, comforted him, and taught him about the God of Israel. She told him stories of David, of God’s faithfulness, and of the covenant that could never be broken. She and Jehoiada prayed over him, guiding him in truth and preparing him for the day when God would call him to lead. When Joash turned seven, Jehoiada brought him out before the people and crowned him king. The temple was repaired, the idols were torn down, and the people turned their hearts back to God. The child Jehosheba had saved grew up to restore worship and lead the nation back to righteousness.
Jehosheba didn’t fight with armies or weapons. She fought with faith, courage, and love. She protected the future by trusting God’s promise, even when danger surrounded her. And because she did, the royal line continued—all the way to Jesus.
The Balm of Her Story
- Faith protects what fear threatens. Jehosheba’s courage preserved God’s promise when evil sought to destroy it. Her faith saved not only a child but the future of God’s people. When we step out in faith we never know the impact it will have for generations.
- Love sacrifices for the sake of others. She raised a child not her own, proving that love can change history. You do not have to give birth to a child to be a spiritual mother. It is letting the love of God work through you that makes a true spiritual mother.
- Obedience builds legacy. Her quiet faithfulness became the foundation for a king who led people back to God. one woman’s actions changed a whole nation.
- God honors hidden courage. Jehosheba’s name is seldom spoken, yet her actions echo through eternity. You do not have to be a super star to make an impact. Quite tender loving care can change everything.
- Protecting the future means trusting God’s plan. Even when she couldn’t see the outcome, she believed that God’s promise would stand. We do not know what tomorrow holds but we know who holds our hand and our future.
