Becoming A Vessel

Week: 7 The Complete Vessel

A Vessel Formed, filled, and poured out

Mary Magdalene

John 20; Luke 8:1–3; Mark 15–16

We have walked through six beautiful, transformative steps in the Becoming a Vessel Series:

  • Week 1: Cleansing — God washed the vessel.
  • Week 2: Shaping — He formed it through pressure and preparation.
  • Week 3: Surrender — The vessel yielded fully to His purpose.
  • Week 4: Strengthening — The vessel endured the fire and became able to carry Living Water.
  • Week 5: Filling — The vessel received what God intended it to hold.
  • Week 6: Outpouring — The vessel poured out what God had placed inside.

Now we arrive at Week 7: The Complete Vessel — not meaning perfect, but meaning fully yielded, fully transformed, fully available.

And no woman embodies all six steps more completely than Mary Magdalene.

She is the vessel cleansed, shaped, surrendered, strengthened, filled, and poured out — The Complete Vessel

Cleansed — Her Story Begins in Brokenness

Mary’s story begins with torment. Scripture says Jesus cast seven demons out of her (Luke 8:2). She was shattered, oppressed, and spiritually bound — a vessel in pieces.

But Jesus cleansed her completely. He removed what could not remain. Her cleansing was supernatural, total, and life‑altering.

Shaped — She Followed and Served Jesus

After her deliverance, Mary followed Jesus everywhere. She supported His ministry financially (Luke 8:3). She traveled with Him. She listened to His teaching. She served with devotion.

Her shaping happened through proximity — through walking with Him daily.

Surrendered — She Gave Her Life to His Purpose

Mary surrendered her future, her resources, her identity, her reputation. She didn’t just follow Jesus — she belonged to Him.

Her surrender was lived, not spoken. Her surrender was not just on Sunday, and not partial. It was every day with everything she had.

Strengthened — She Stood at the Cross

When nearly everyone else ran away, Mary stayed.

“Mary Magdalene stood near the cross.” (John 19:25)

She watched Him suffer. She watched Him die. The fire did not break her it strengthened her. Others ran, doubted fell apart. She stayed.

Filled — She Heard Him Call Her Name

On resurrection morning, Mary went to the tomb while it was still dark (John 20:1). She was grieving, confused, and heartbroken — but she still went.

When Jesus appeared, He spoke one word:

“Mary.” (John 20:16)

Her filling was personal. Her filling was intimate. Her filling was revelation — she saw the risen Christ.

Outpouring — She Became the First Messenger of the Resurrection

Jesus commissioned her:

“Go to My brothers …” (John 20:17)

And she obeyed:

“Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: ‘I have seen the Lord!’” (John 20:18)

She poured out:

  • testimony
  • courage
  • revelation
  • hope
  • truth

She became the first preacher of the resurrection — the vessel outpouring the message that changed the world.

Mary Magdalene is the complete vessel — not because she was perfect, but because she was willing.

WHAT WE LEARN FROM MARY MAGDALENE

1️⃣ Your beginning does not disqualify your calling. Mary started broken, tormented, and bound — yet she became the first witness of the resurrection.

2️⃣ Cleansing leads to calling. Her deliverance positioned her for discipleship, devotion, and destiny.

3️⃣ Surrender is the doorway to strength. She surrendered her life to Jesus, and that surrender carried her through the fire of the cross.

4️⃣ Strengthening prepares you for revelation. Her faithfulness in grief positioned her to be the first to see the risen Christ.

5️⃣ Filling leads to overflow. Jesus called her name, filled her with truth, and sent her to pour out the message of resurrection.

6️⃣ A complete vessel is one who keeps returning to Jesus. Mary followed Him in life, sought Him in death, and proclaimed Him in resurrection.

CONCLUSION

Mary Magdalene’s story is the story of a woman transformed by Jesus at every level. She began broken, bound, and tormented — and ended as the first witness of the resurrection, the first messenger of hope, and the first voice to proclaim, “I have seen the Lord.”

Her life teaches us that Jesus doesn’t just cleanse us — He calls us. He doesn’t just shape us — He sends us. He doesn’t just strengthen us — He reveals Himself to us. He doesn’t just fill us — He entrusts us with His message.

Mary Magdalene became a complete vessel because she kept returning to Jesus — in deliverance, in discipleship, at the cross, at the tomb, and in the garden of resurrection.

Jesus can cleanse any past.

Jesus can shape any future.

Jesus can strengthen any heart.

Jesus can fill any vessel.

Jesus can pour out any life for His glory

Mary Magdalene shows us what a life looks like when a woman gives Jesus everything.

  1. Substitute the word “my” for the word “any” when reading what Jesus can do. Example… instead of any vessel say my vessel. Very powerful and humbling. Thank you sister Alicia!♥️
