Becoming A Vessel
Week: 8 Wrap-Up
The Vessel of Honor
Over the last seven weeks, we have followed the Potter’s hands as He formed us into vessels of honor. Each week revealed a different part of the process — and a different woman whose life embodied that step.
- Week 1 — Cleansing: The Pharaoh’s Daughter turned from hate to embrace love.
- Week 2 — Shaping: Esther revealed that shaping happens in hidden places, through preparation, pressure, and process.
- Week 3 — Surrender: Esther again showed us that surrender activates calling — even when it costs everything.
- Week 4 — Strengthening: The Shunammite Woman taught us that fire doesn’t break the vessel — it strengthens it.
- Week 5 — Filling: Elizabeth showed us that faithful waiting prepares us to be filled with promise and purpose.
- Week 6 — Outpouring: Mary of Bethany demonstrated that outpouring requires courage, devotion, and breaking open everything we’ve been holding.
- Week 7 — The Complete Vessel: Mary Magdalene embodied all six steps — cleansed, shaped, surrendered, strengthened, filled, and poured out — becoming the first witness of the resurrection.
Now we arrive at Week 8 — The Vessel of Honor, the final movement of this journey.
If there is one truth that ties all seven women together, it is this:
They did not become vessels in a single moment. They became vessels through a lifetime of moments — a daily walk with God.
Scripture teaches this:
- “Take up your cross daily and follow Me.” (Luke 9:23)
- “Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.” (2 Corinthians 4:16)
- “His mercies are new every morning.” (Lamentations 3:22–23)
- “Give us this day our daily bread.” (Matthew 6:11)
- “Be filled with the Spirit.” (literally: be continually being filled) (Ephesians 5:18)
Every woman in this series lived this truth.
Pharaoh’s Daughter- Cleansed
She decided to turn from hate and save a Hebrew baby from death. Then she spent years nurturing and caring for Moses. The decision was instant the cleansing took time.
Esther — Shaped Daily
Her shaping didn’t happen in one night. It happened over years of preparation (Esther 2:8–12), obedience, and courage. Even after becoming queen, she continued to grow, listen, and respond to God’s timing.
Esther — Surrendered Daily
Her surrender wasn’t just the moment she said, “If I perish, I perish.” It was the daily choice to trust God in a palace where she had no control (Esther 4:16).
The Shunammite Woman — Strengthened Daily
Her strengthening came through multiple fires:
- the death of her son (2 Kings 4:18–37),
- the famine that forced her to leave home (2 Kings 8:1–2),
- the battle to reclaim her land (2 Kings 8:3–6).
Each fire fortified her faith.
Elizabeth — Filled Daily
She lived a lifetime of devotion (Luke 1:6). Her filling didn’t begin with pregnancy — it began with decades of faithfulness. And when Mary visited, she was filled with the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:41), showing that filling is ongoing.
Mary of Bethany — Outpouring Daily
Her overflow wasn’t just the moment she broke the jar (John 12:3). She had already chosen the “better part” by sitting at Jesus’ feet (Luke 10:39). Her life was marked by continual devotion
Mary Magdalene — Becoming a Complete Vessel Daily
She was cleansed (Luke 8:2). She followed Jesus daily (Luke 8:1–3). She stayed at the cross (John 19:25). She went to the tomb early (John 20:1). She received revelation (John 20:16). She proclaimed the resurrection (John 20:18).
Her entire life was a daily walk of becoming more like Jesus.
Every woman shows us the same truth:
Becoming a vessel of honor is not a moment — it is a daily journey. A daily cleansing. A daily shaping. A daily surrender. A daily strengthening. A daily filling. A daily overflow.
This is the life of a vessel in the Potter’s hands.
WHAT WE LEARN FROM THE ENTIRE SERIES
1️⃣ Becoming a vessel begins with cleansing, but cleansing is continual. Jesus washes us again and again as we grow.
2️⃣ Shaping is lifelong. Every season, every challenge, every transition forms us more into His image.
3️⃣ Surrender is repeated. We lay down our plans, fears, and expectations daily.
4️⃣ Strengthening comes through many fires. Trials don’t stop — but neither does God’s faithfulness.
5️⃣ Filling is ongoing. The Holy Spirit continually pours into us as we remain open.
6️⃣ Outpouring is the natural result of staying close to Jesus. A vessel filled by Him will always pour out His love, truth, and presence.
7️⃣ A vessel of honor is not perfect — it is willing. Every woman in Scripture was flawed, but every woman was used by God.
CONCLUSION
Becoming a vessel is not a seven‑week journey. It is a lifelong journey.
We are cleansed again. We are shaped again. We surrender again. We are strengthened again. We are filled again. We overflow again.
The Potter never stops touching the clay. He never stops forming us. He never stops refining us. He never stops pouring Himself into us.
These stories remind us that a vessel of honor is not perfect — it is willing. Willing to be shaped. Willing to be filled. Willing to be poured out. Willing to return to the Potter again and again.
This is the Becoming a Vessel Series —
not a moment,
not a milestone,

I thoroughly enjoyed the weekly study. Yes it has caused me to think and take inventory of what I have to offer. I have grown and I want God to use me. He is shaping me and yes I’ve been put back on the fire a time or two. I want to see what he sees in me. I want to be used of him. I hope everyone read these uplifting and encouraging stories of these strong faithful women and that you have a new desire to grow closer to Jesus and let him have his perfect way in your life. Whether a weekly Bible study or an 8-week series, it’s all good.
I love these studies no matter the format! They are us cranking opening the word which is meat to our bodies. Spiritual, physical, emotional, all of above. I enjoy them and they make me ponder on what type of woman do I want to be. Am I going to allow the process to produce the right fruit? Am I going to be the willing vessel the Lord wants to use? I pray that we all will be and allow the Master and Maker of us all to continually work on us! Amen.
